Description

The New York Times investigates sexual slavery or sex "tourism" in Asia as told through the eyes of the victims and customers. Three trends have exacerbated the problem. Rising economic development, which has increased the appetite for children more quickly than it reduces supply; the rise of capitalism, which creates markets for virgin girls as well as rice and pork and, most importantly, the fear of AIDs, which has driven customers to younger girls and boys perceived to be disease-free.
