Description

The Columbia School District provides every Columbia elementary school with the basics, but PTA donations and grants are creating inequities. PTAs are only part of the story. Grants from state and federal agencies and from private institutions give some schools thousands of dollars for computers, additional teachers and the supplies needed to start cutting edge programs. Corporate sponsors make cash and equipment donations to some schools. And a few schools are left behind. A two-month review of district records and contributions to individual elementary schools reveals this trend.
