Russian criminal groups have infiltrated the hockey business at every level in Russia. It was well known that many National Hockey League stars from Russia have received threats or been targeted for extortion. This article uncovered evidence of organized crime penetration in hockey groups in Russia, and the NHL's involvement, unwitting or not, in funneling money to criminal syndicates through transfer fees and other business transactions.
