Description

Since the 1970s, commercial fisheries have pushed fish stocks to collapse. Pollution has claimed the lives of millions of sea inhabitants and vital coastal habitats are being threatened by construction and development. E magazine looks at the UN response: declaring 1998 the International Year of the Ocean, an effort to examine the array of human impacts that are making themselves felt on the global ocean.
