Description

Brill's Content reports that ABC's PrimeTime Live won an Emmy Award for its hidden-camera expose of medical labs. So why is it being sued for fraud and deception? Even as the prizes were being handed out, those covered were fighting back. A suit was filed charging ABC and its producers with fraud and "intrusion" for gaining access to the business under false pretenses. Indeed, while the legal odds may be against the plaintiffs, a review of the record and interviews with people involved show that PrimeTime not only engaged in a far-reaching pattern of deception - but also that the newsmagazine set up a sting operation and relied on a company that had a lot to gain by showing the weakness of lab analysis of Paps.
