Description

This article examines the government's war on the El Rukn Chicago street gang. The U. S. Attorney's office racked up convictions of El Rukn leaders based on the testimony of one former gang member turned informant. This witness later admitted to lying on the witness stand, accusing prosecutors of coaching him to lie or exaggerate parts of his testimony. Many of the previous convictions of El Rukn leaders have been overturned.
