Description

Geographic information systems (GIS) are becoming more prominent in society, especially among businesses and in government. Using data assembled on maps, GIS allows computerized analysis of information, including characteristics about people and their habits, in geographic relationships. While many benefits are apparent, concerns have been raised about GIS unmasking people's private lifestyles. The Union-Tribune examined GIS and how this technology affects all of us. The evolution of GIS is explored as well as the gamut of uses for GIS in San Diego County.
