A News-Journal investigation revealed that local law enforcement officials often do not respond to reports of elderly abuse. "Police didn't gather evidence or question victims, witness or suspects. Prosecutors in the State Attorney's office never brought charges. Abusers were never punished." The two-part series looks at the factors contributing to law enforcement's neglect and ways to prevent cases from "falling through the cracks."
