Description

A Tampa Tribune investigation of Dr. James Rowsey, a University of South Florida ophthalmology professor and former department head, revealed that he "... performed experimental cornea transplants without patients' consent... (and) was supposed use his experimental device on cats, but used it on humans instead, that he misused grant money to pay a coworker's wife, was being investigated by the FBI,.." Also, the publication found "that the officers in charge of monitoring medical research at USF were also responsible for marketing the devices invented and tested there and that medical research done at the university was often more concerned with profit than with scientific discovery."
