The stories uncovered group homes designated for the mentally disabled found to be in bad condition, abuse and neglect of the mentally retarded on the part of their caretakers and even instances of the mentally retarded being used as slave-wage labor. Boo's series also discovered a history of uncounted deaths of the retarded and the large cover-up The reprint also includes several follow-up stories done by Boo and the Post staff.
