Description

Education Week takes a look at the decaying state of Los Angeles' oldest high school, Manual Arts High School; currently Manual Arts in running on a year-round schedule to accommodate its 3,700 students, many of whom need help passing the state's standardized test; the school is also in desperate need of books, computers, a larger faculty and campus. But with a projected 85,000 students entering the already 723,000 student district in the next six years, and a new superintendent left with the task of improving every school in the district, it may be a while before Manual Arts gets its prayers answered.
