Description

The American Prospect looks into "how Alabama judges use judicial overrides to disregard juries and impose death sentences. Thirty-two individuals, about one-sixth of the current population of Alabama's death row, were sent there by judges who overruled the jury." Reporters found "10 cases where a judge overrode a jury's unanimous 12-0 recommendation for life." Ken Silverstein looks at judges such as Ferrill McRae among others, who override juries giving predominately black inmates the death sentence.
