The Daily Star examines the fund-raising practices of their local United Way chapter. The investigation found that although the company said fund-raising was "record-breaking" a substantial portion of the money was not benefiting local needy, the amount of money slated to go to local causes was overestimated by almost $2 million, and that instead of breaking any records the United Way had actually failed to meet is own fund-raising goals. The series led to more than two dozen policy changes and the hiring of an outside consultant to review the agency's operations.
