Description

Following a breaking story in which a husband was charged with killing his estranged wife, reporters from The(Columbia, S.C.)State analyzed domestic violence statewide, finding that over a five-year period, more than half of the most serious domestic violence cases had been dismissed by judges and prosecutors. As a result of the series, the attorney general issued a statewide order to prosecutors, ordering them to stop dropping cases. The legislature voted to raise marriage license fees to provide an estimated additional $1 million to domestic violence shelters in the state.
