Description

Following a school bus crash where the bus driver was later found to be a convicted felon, KARK-TV wondered how it was possible for school districts to hire felons. Their investigation found that a combination of school district's need to fill positions and the length of the background check process allowed schools to hire unknowingly hire felons. Although Arkansas state law forbids the hiring of people with felony backgrounds, the background check process is so complicated and bureaucratic that it allows for felons to be working in schools for months at a time.
