Description

After decades of secrecy, Texas hospitals have been forced to release data that reveal death rates and other information about patient care. With the help of a statistician, the Star-Telegram crunched an enormous database of quality indicators for Texas hospitals, and produced a report on how hospitals in the Fort Worth and Dallas area perform. The story delved deeply into the issues surrounding the disclosure of hospital quality data, and documented how hospitals and doctors in Texas have been fighting against the public release of such information for years.
