The story of Norma Hunsucker, a schizophrenic woman who was a ward of Jackson County, Missouri for half her life. When Norma died suddenly at the age of 52, the Jackson County administrator arranged her cremation and closed her file. A month passed before her daughter, Kathy Wright, learned of her mother's death.
