Description

This investigation revealed how a cumbersome grievance committee procedure and the committee's own reluctance leads to lengthy delays before attorneys are disciplined for criminal or unethical conduct. The newspaper's examination of state records from 1995 to 2002 found that 74 lawyers accounted for 342 client complaints. As the complaints pile up, the attorneys continue to practice law while their clients pay the price. Two attorneys had 14 complaints apiece, while another accumulated 44 complaints in 11 years before his license was finally revoked.
