Des Moines Register article indicates that under the Reagan Administration, the U.S. poultry industry is increasingly allowed to conduct its own testing for harmful chemical residues, to decide when potential problems should be reported to the goverment, and other functions once handled by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, April 1983.
