A year long investigation into the lack of justice for rape victims in Washington State. We find police departments statewide ignore most of the evidence collected in crimes of sexual assault. We expose a backlog of rape kits gathering dust in property rooms. We reveal policies that result in only a fraction of evidence collected from sexual assault survivors being submitted to the State Patrol Crime Lab. We report on barriers rape victims face in getting medical exams--exams that are necessary for the identification and prosecution of perpetrators.
