WCNC-TV (Charlotte, N.C.) reports that jewelers in the Charlotte area were selling diamonds at higher grades than what they actually were in order to cut competition; uses six gemologists to determine that of 40 diamonds from 12 area stores, 86 percent were overgraded, Dec. 17 - 18, 1991.
