Description

The Las Vegas Review-Journal staff immediately jumped into action following the brutal murder of their colleague, investigative reporter Jeff German, who was stabbed to death by a public official who had been the source of Jeff’s investigative work.

The murder was an attack on press freedoms, the First Amendment and the public’s right to know. But the outrage didn’t end there. Las Vegas authorities wanted the Nevada Supreme Court to set the most dangerous of precedents: To put aside the state’s shield law and rule that the slaying of a journalist allows the murder suspect and law enforcement agencies to access the contacts and, potentially, sensitive unpublished work of the dead reporter.
