Description

The New York Times Magazine investigates modern-day cases of piracy in international waters. It specifically focuses on the case of the Petro Ranger, a medium-sized tanker skippered by Captain Ken Blyth. The Petro Ranger was taken over by a small group of pirates and repainted. The pirates tried to take the ship to China in an attempt to sell the ship's precious cargo -- jet fuel -- on the black market. Blyth was able to notify authorities while they were in a Chinese port. However, the pirates have since been released and are reportedly still engaged in piracy.
