    FOX31 Denver caught the most affluent school district in Colorado failing to report dozens of sex assaults which occurred on its campuses. The investigative team and station attorneys doggedly pursued juvenile crime, police, and student discipline records for 78 schools within the Cherry Creek district.
  • Bulletproof

    Police wear body armor, but that doesn't stop criminals from killing them. FOX31 analyzed cop killings nationwide to show how design flaws allow bullets to skip through vests. In addition, the team exposed local police agencies which failed to provide their force with basic safety gear.
  • Drug Test Shakedown

    A FOX31 Denver undercover investigation exposed an extortion scheme happening inside a prominent pre-employment drug screening center. Undercover cameras caught a facility manager accepting cash bribes from clients in exchange for guaranteed adulteration of urine tests.
  • Frankenstein Guardrails

    The FOX31 Denver’s investigative unit discovered Colorado Department of Transportation maintenance crews assembling guardrail systems with mix-and-match parts from competing manufacturers. By “Frankensteining” already questionable end-cap terminals, with incompatible rails, the state had been creating serious road safety hazards for years. Within a week of the revelation, the Federal Highway Administration ordered a nationwide warning and Colorado began inspecting every guardrail system in the state (42,000 end-cap terminals/21,000 guardrail systems), repairing hundreds of dangerous installation errors.
  • Masking the Pain

    A yearlong investigation into the widespread misuse of narcotics, numbing agents, and other pain-killing & anti-inflammatory injections, like Toradol, inside college sports locker rooms. FOX31 Denver spent months fighting with dozens of major universities, including all of Colorado’s NCAA-certified athletic programs, for medication purchasing records, sports drug policies, and use of pain-killing injections and pills on “game-day” athletes.
  • FRACTURE CRITICAL: COLORADO’S DETERIORATING RAILROADS

    FOX31 Denver reviewed safety inspections for more than 150 railroad bridges in Colorado and found about one-quarter flunked their latest safety inspection or were deteriorating toward what inspectors call “structurally deficient.” The investigation uncovered one failed rail road bridge which had been struck at least 38 times by heavy trucks and semis - without a single repair.
  • Force, Ethics, and Denver Police

    A bystander to alleged misconduct accused Denver Police of illegally seizing videotape he shot of a violent arrest. When his tablet was returned, he claimed the video file was missing, but he later retrieved it from an electronic Cloud. When FOX31 Denver’s investigative team began unraveling discrepancies between what officers wrote in their excessive force reports – and what was on videotape.
