August Boot Camps -- seats are still available, register today!

Mapping Boot Camp August 13-15, 2010 (University of Missouri, Columbia, MO) Take your CAR skills to the next level by learning how to uncover the “where” in your data.  Instructors Jennifer LaFleur of ProPublica and David Herzog of NICAR will show how to use ArcView geographic information system (GIS) software in this intensive three-day session.  You’ll learn how to create simple data maps and perform more sophisticated geographic analysis. Seven members elected to IRE board

Seven members of IRE’s Board of Directors were elected this past weekend at the annual conference in Las Vegas. The newly elected members of the 13-member board are: Sarah Cohen, of Duke University; Rob Cribb, of the Toronto Star; Andrew Donohue, of voiceofsandiego.org; Manny Garcia, of El Nuevo Herald/The Miami Herald; Aron Pilhofer of The New York Times; Mc Nelly Torres, an independent investigative journalist; and Phil Williams, of WTVF-TV. Greenspun, strong supporter of IRE’s Watchdog program, dies at 88

Barbara J. Greenspun, whose support has allowed IRE to train thousands of journalists throughout the country in investigative techniques, passed away on June 1. Greenspun, publisher of the Las Vegas Sun, is credited with helping to lay the foundation that led to the paper winning the Pulitzer Prize for public service last year. In 2005, the Greenspun family established a fund within the IRE Endowment to support regional seminars in investigative techniques under the IRE Watchdog Workshop program.
